Gryphon I

About

The Gryphon I was designed in LURA’s first year to compete in the 10,000 ft category at the Spaceport America Cup (formerly IREC) competition. The Gryphon I-C was a variant built prior to the Gryphon I to validate the flight characteristics and two-stage recovery system. I joined the team shortly after the Gryphon I’s PDR and worked on getting the recovery system, which used two pistons actuated by black powder to release the nosecone, to work.
