Monitor Detector

About

Acting on behalf of CNES, Airbus commissioned NPL to produce STAR-CC-OGSE to provide traceable optical calibration for the MicroCarb satellite. I was primarily responsible for delivering the Monitor Detector which sampled the instrument’s light source allowing it to be traceably calibrated. The detector had to operate in vacuum, manage its thermals and capture readings from Si and InGaAs photodiodes and a commercial spectrometer. I designed the mechanics for holding and aligning the optics, the electronics for reading off the photodiodes and the electrical cabinet which housed all the supporting equipment.
